FAO report reveals Ford is planning $17.8 billion in cuts

Horwath says Ontario now is the time to shore up health and education – not cut it

QUEEN’S PARK — Official Opposition NDP Leader Andrea Horwath released the following statement in response to a new Financial Accountability Office report that reveals Doug Ford is planning $17.8 billion in cuts to get to his promised projection for the 2029-30 budget:

“It’s incredibly alarming that Doug Ford is scheming to cut $17.8 billion from the public services Ontarians count on — especially at a time when we need to help people recover from the pandemic. This is a warning siren: more big cuts and bad choices are on the way.

We should be tackling the waiting list for surgeries, not making cuts that will force people to wait in pain much longer. Now more than ever, we should be investing in our children to help them get back on track, not cutting schools deeper and forcing kids to struggle even more. We should be investing to fix the long-term care homes that have been run into the ground, not cutting and making survivors’ quality of life even worse.

Everyday families will pay the price for Ford’s slash-and-burn agenda. You can’t cut $17.8-billion without hurting them deeply.”
